Trend Micro Internet Security 2010

Not the best security suite out there but Trend Micro's bundle still has a lot going for it.

Trend Micro's security software is huge in its native Japan, but it's struggled elsewhere to move out from the shadow of fellow security giants McAfee and Symantec. Since the launch of last year's security suites, Symantec has raised the bar with its Norton Internet Security suite and, while Trend Micro's is an adequate product, it hasn't done enough to surpass its major rival.

All the usual suspects (anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam and firewall) are here behind an interface that's easy to use but uninspiring. The big green tick on the homepage is reassuring and the buttons down the left-hand side take you deeper into the software without overwhelming you, but the interface hasn't moved on since last year.

Security suites are becoming leaner and faster all the time and this product reflects that rapid progression. However, the software doesn't have the cutting-edge features of Symantec, such as the ability to scan your files in the background while you're not using your PC. Trend Micro's software is fine, but that's not enough to stand out as the best.
